Overview

Charyn canyon is a unique natural monument that is part of the Charyn national Park, which was opened in February 2004 in order to preserve and restore the unique natural monuments of Almaty region. It stretches for 154 km along the Charyn river. This amazing natural monument is made up of sedimentary rocks that are about 12 million years old. The height reaches from 150 to 300 meters.

Itinerary

Charyn canyon is considered to be the younger brother of the Grand Canyon of the USA and is often compared with it. The natural dimensions of this grandiose creation of nature are, in terms of length 200 km and in terms of height from 100 to more than 300 meters.

The journey time to the Charyn canyon is about 3 hours (240 km). Along the way, you will get acquainted with the history and nature of this amazing region, learn a lot of interesting things about the Kazakh people, their life and traditions. Sightseeing tour of the canyon is very rich and exciting, during which the guide will tell you about the features of the natural attraction, important events and its rich nature.

Upon arrival in the Charyn canyon and enjoying its magnificent panorama, you will go down to the bottom of the canyon, where you will find a 2-kilometer walk in the Valley of Castles, which owes its appearance to the fact that the water washed away the clay, and then formed an unusual relief in the form of castles, which can now be seen. The height of the rocks and towers in this area is 370 meters.
