Shymkent Local Museum

The Regional Museum of Local History stands as a historic cornerstone in the South Kazakhstan region, being both the largest and oldest museum in the area. Its origins trace back to the 1920s, and over nearly a century, the museum has undergone various transformations and name changes, amassing a collection of over 88,000 exhibits, with the most exceptional ones on display in its exhibition halls.

In 2014, the Museum of Local History of South Kazakhstan relocated to a new building that adheres to modern standards and requirements, signifying a significant milestone in its history. The inauguration of the new premises was graced by the presence of President N. A. Nazarbayev, underscoring its importance. The museum now spans a total area of 2541.81 square meters, with the exhibition halls alone covering 1060.12 square meters.
